I have always had a strong interest in photography. Both my parents were art teachers so the house was always full of books and papers and manuscripts about the art world, everything from ancient cave paintings to Dada, surrealism and modernism. I always entertained the possibility of going to art school, however I ended up studying for a video HND at James Watt College and a BA in Photography Film and Television at Napier.
When I moved back to Glasgow from London in 2007 my interest in photography and the visual image was reignited, programs like Adobe Photoshop opening up new possibilities for manipulation of images and self-expression. I found the city landscape to be visually very inspiring. I was drawn to varied textures, hard lighting and strong contrasts of shadow and colour in my photographic work.
