Romy Cohen is a photographer based in New York City. Born and raised in Los Angeles, she has deep roots on both coasts. After receiving her undergraduate degree, she went on to earn a B. Arch in architecture from Pratt Institute. She has more recently studied photography with numerous teachers, mentors, and colleagues including coursework at the International Center for Photography, workshops and with SE(>)EN Collective.
By photographing in a way that decontextualizes the subject, Romy uses her camera to see that which is often unseen, neglected, maybe ignored. She finds that in specificity, in creating a sense of intimacy, in stripping away distractions, she can convey moments of universal experience.
In creating these evocative and intimate experiences, Romy hopes to expand our connections to one another. In revealing the commonality of our experiences, Romy hopes to increase our humanity and empathy for one another.
