I grew up in an artistic and cultural family, Spanish and Mexican, and heard and saw folkloric music and dance from since before I can remember. It was on a long distance train trip in March 1969 from California to Michigan when I was 15 years old (with my mother and six year old brother) that I realized something significant, there was so much beauty in this country that I had never seen before, diversity of landscape, climate, people, that I wanted to capture it and share it with all that I could, on my way back. I had no camera and asked my dad if he would buy me one, hence, my first images were taken with a Kodak 124 Instamatic camera. I only had one roll of black and white film and knew I had to be selective!
I have enjoyed photographing instruments alone and with the female form over the years and have learned to play several over the years, including the cello. Photography and music will always be an important part of my life.
