I was born an early child but got late into almost everything in my life, though my wife thinks my middle age crisis started quite early in that regard! I committed a whirlwind courtship with photography after watching her from a distance for a good many years as she was out of my league like the girls of my age were always interested in older guys.
“Whenever you get some time just sit and think”, once said my grandfather long time ago when I was in my early teens. He didn’t say what to think about though, which left a circling quest in my mind on what he really meant by that. But spending more and more time with this living literature casket something slipped inside me without my conscious settlement, Romanticism! From an urge to express my thoughts and feelings I befriended poetry and music and stayed on that path for a while.
I had seen some of my privileged friends taking up photography in the school days, which caused me some envy and heart burning, but only to keep a lenient distance from the charms of it. As a retaliation I rather took up on the boring side, read some books on basic concepts of photography, it enthralled me nonetheless about the magic that light and box can produce!
I had few opportunities to take photo with Yashica rangefinder and Agfa Silette 1 in my younger days, though mostly limited to family shots. Finally I could jump in whole-heartedly as I got a decent machine as a gift from my wife. Today I aspire to tell stories of people and places, the way I see it.
I think a photographer is no different that a poet, a musician or an artist, it's just another way of expressing yourself as well as a journey to find yourself.
