Siebe Swart (1957, Amsterdam) studied chemistry before switching to photography at the Rietveld Academy (Amsterdam 1982-1986). After his study, Siebe established himself as a fine art printer with which he financed his own projects. Working at home and abroad he became particularly interested in the built environment and man-made landscapes. He gradually left his darkroom work behind him, starting to work on assignments in the field of (landscape) architecture and urban development. Around the year 2000 Siebe trained himself in aerial photography and he became one of the Netherlands' most prominent aerial photographers operating an comprehensive online archive.
Since 2020, the emphasis in Siebe's work has shifted from documentary projects and aerial assignments to more personal fine art projects which fits the more contemplative and mature phase of his life. The first project was Time and tide, poetic b/w panoramic seascapes, finished 2021. This project was followed by Finisterre, aerial photography in colour with the drone of coastal areas outside the Netherlands along the West-European Atalantic coast, from Spain to Denmark..
Currently he is back in the Netherlands, working on Duin⎪Dune, dune landscapes in the National Park Schoorl and Bergen dunes. This recent project is the third part of what is becoming a sea triptych.
Siebe has two daughters (b. 1993, 1994), works and lives in Amsterdam and Alkmaar were his wife lives, near the sea.
