Sonya Shannon’s passion for portraiture emerged from a career in 3D computer animation. Inspired by her role as a storyboard artist, her multi-layered approach uses sequential figures to explore time and transformation. Sonya’s distinctive style is shaped by her training in classical (hand-drawn) animation, her expertise with simulated computer-generated space, and her love of photography.
Reminiscent of Eadweard Muybridge, Sonya’s artwork reveals metaphysical aspects of the world not apparent to the casual observer, and not typically expressed in photography. A director of diverse talents from Cirque du Soleil and Limon Dance performers to actress Ellen Burstyn, Sonya is skilled at evoking the magic in people of all kinds.
