Sophia Tsoumaki was born in Samos Island and currently lives in Athens Greece. She followed Communication studies in the Pandion University of Athens and holds a bachelor’s degree in Economics from the Athens University. Being very much interested in the human body, mind and soul, as well as in Family systems, she also studied Yoga and followed different trainings in Family and Trauma and PTSD therapy.
Her passion for art photography dates back to her student years at the Athens University, when she started studying photography and became an active member of the“Photographic Circle”, a very well-known Art Photography Association in Athens, guided by the renowned art photographer and teacher Plato Rivelis. As a member of the “Photographic Circle” she participated twice at the Association’s art photography group exhibitions, expressing herself through black and white photography at that time. She has always loved to photograph people, as well as Nature. During that period she also took portrait photographs of many well known contemporary musicians like Wim Mertens, Lorie Anderson, Astor Piazzola etc, which were published at the music magazines she was collaborating with as a photographer and music journalist.
In 1998, she held her first photographic exhibition at her home island Samos under the title “Inner Worlds”, with rare and unique photos from the life/and of the inhabitants of isolated minority villages of Thrace, at the northern part of Greece. Enchanted and influenced by Tarkofsky’s filmography, cinematography and imagery, and also by Impressionism, she has always liked to use her camera as a medium to conceive and capture photographic images with a painter’s eye.
In 2001, she participated at the international Contemporary Art Exhibition “Akis-Flux” that took place in Samos island. This year she has been selected to participate at the Santorini island international Biennale under the title “Peace Mechanisms”.
Being also a Family/trauma therapist and expressing herself through photography, she loves to connect those two passions of hers by creating images/realities that nurture and open our hearts to a deeper connection with our inner true nature assisting our healing and our attunement with the deeper origins and sources of life.
