Sophie Wedgwood has a personal approach to storytelling. Moving freely between journalism and art; she experiments with the established ways of representation, using blur and uneven flash as the language through which private intimate experience is communicated to the viewer. She steers away from sensationalist art and culture and subtly reveals the stories of people in her everyday life and community. Here the outcome is unselfconscious and often poetic images with a strong personal vision. She is a freelancer for Reuters and contributes to a number of places including The Guardian, The BBC, Gulf Times, The Daily Mail, CNN, Yahoo News, Arab News, Eastern Eye, MSN News, Corbis Images, One America News Network, Channel News Asia, i-D Magazine, HUNGER, Purple Fashion Magazine, Dazed & Confused, AnOther Magazine, VICE and DiS. She was nominated for this years World Press Photo Award (Joop Swart Masterclass) and Magnum Graduate Award.
Sophie also leads an after school photography club in Depford, Peckham and Brixton. Its aim is to encourage creative thinking as well as diversity in the arts.
