Stas Shakarvis (full first name Stasis) was born in 1972 in the USSR. He is the citizen of Lithuania, now lives and works in Moscow, Russia.
In 2002 Stas realized his aspiration to be an artist. The classical photographical technique didn’t satisfy him, so he started to create self designed lenses.
It’s important, that the construction of the lenses is not the aim itself. It is only the creation of an instrument for the art work.
Until his awaking in early 2000, Stasis used not visual images but words in his inner life. It was poetry, philosophy, theosophy, mythology…. But up to 2000 he reached the border of the verbal communication, and only visual language became the road from this dead end. The pictorial photographers of late XIX – early XX centuries had their roots in visual art – painting. Stas Shakarvis, having many formal parallels with them, is coming from the verbal side, mostly from mythology.
Now Stasis plunged into the world of illusions and most likely disappeared.
