There are many styles of art and forms of expression, which have all served as reference points and have influenced my work. I have enjoyed the narrative form of story telling which describes and relates the human condition from the everyday to the tragic to the sublime. I admire the photographic work of Robert Frank, Diane Arbus, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Winograd and Koudelka. Painting has also influenced the way I have looked at the world. I love the use of paint to describe the magic of light, environments and people. From Van Gogh, Vermeer, Sargent, Sheeler to Edward Hopper and Warhol. Literature, magazines and journalism have also added to my collective interest and greater understanding of the world around me and has helped me to look with a different sense of what the possibilities are and how stories are being told.
