About Sue Rynski
Trained in fine art, I honed my photographic vision in the late seventies punk rock-and-art scene in my hometown, Detroit - a powerful creative incubator.
This early work has been shown around the world, notably in the exhibition "I Am a Cliché: echoes of the punk aesthetic" at the 40th Rencontres d'Arles in 2010.
My subject continues to be the energy of rock music in small underground scenes, creative communities where the love of original music and DIY culture brings people together. Music in the body expressed through movement, gesture, interactions, emotion and joy is my main inspiration. This recent work has also been widely exhibited.
Since 2015 I am additionally doing visual research on the 21st century Paris punk underground for French academic study PIND-Punk is not dead, including numerous presentations, a commissioned exhibition and recent publication.
