Tara Rice is a photographer based in Brooklyn, NY.
Photography was a natural choice for Tara, whose father was also a photographer and owned a camera store and professional lab for 30 years. Tara learned how to use a camera and darkroom with her dad as a mentor, and continued her practice at Brooks Institute of Photography, where she received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 2007.
She discovered her passion for humanitarian photography while she was on assignment with Marco Grob as an assistant in Afghanistan for UNMAS (United Nations Mine Action Service) and has since committed to focus her own work on documenting aid work worldwide.
Of late, she has been focusing her efforts on women’s rights, education and the effects globalization has had on developing nations, traveling internationally to document service projects.
