Nataliia Volkova often describes her life as two books. The first was written before 2022, during a period of stability and her professional career as a physician. The second began with the outbreak of war in Ukraine, marking a profound rupture that forced her to leave behind a familiar world and begin again.
It was within this second chapter that photography became her language of survival and meaning. What began as an inner necessity quickly evolved into a deep artistic practice. Volkova immersed herself in fine art photography, choosing still life as a space of silence, concentration, and inner support in a world that had lost its balance.
Her work is inspired by the Dutch Golden Age still life tradition, reinterpreted through contemporary experience. Fruits, flowers, stone, and darkness function as metaphors for time, fragility, resilience, and renewal. Light plays a central role, emerging slowly from shadow and shaping each composition with restraint and intention.
In 2024, Volkova’s work received international recognition, including Top 10 placements in Fine Art Photography and Women Photographers categories, as well as recognition within the international OneEyeland community. Today, she continues to develop cohesive, concept-driven series that explore how classical visual language can resonate in the present, offering quiet strength and a sense of continuity.
