William Guion is an American photographer, writer, and book maker who has documented Louisiana’s historic live oaks for more than forty years. Influenced by the West Coast tradition of large-format landscape photography, he works primarily with black-and-white photographs and hand-painted photographic prints.
Guion is the author or photographer of six books, including Heartwood: Meditations on Southern Oaks, published by Bulfinch Press/Little, Brown, and Return to Heartwood: A Search for the Heart of Live Oak Country. His photographs and writing have appeared in American Forests, 64 Parishes, Louisiana Life, and The Journal of the International Oak Society. His work is held in museum, corporate, and private collections. He also created the Bayou Lafourche Historic Live Oak Tour and the ongoing 100 Oaks Project.
