The Chain: a photobook beyond words

700 psychiatric patients live chained together in pairs, and are forced to tend more than one million chickens at the largest chicken farm in Taiwan. Portraits of the players in this real yet surreal drama were photographed with kindness, respect and compassion by Magnum photographer Chien-Chi Chang. 48 of these dual-portraits were beautifully printed by Trolley Books — on one long accordion-folded sheet of paper (like a chain) that unfolds and stretches out to be one incredible piece of art that measures 8 inches x 20 feet long. There is a poignant text included at the end, written by Cheryl Lai.

Except Taiwan Photographer Mr Chien-Chi Chang photo the longfatang (龍發堂), but maybe you like
to find another book from Taiwan photographer Mr Tsung-Hui Hou.
Mr Tsung-Hui Hou was shot the Longfatang on
1981 when he lived on LongFaTang Asylum, Kaohsiung-Taiwan. Mr Hou had issued a personal photography book on 1989. The photography book also descript the peoples who living in LongFaTang Asylum.
Mr Tsung-Hui Hou was sent into the LongFaTang
by his family in 1981 due to he was sick (a psychosis). But he leaved the Asylum on 1982, then become a photographer on local newspaper company.
Mr Chien-Chi Chang became melancholic photographer after he shot a serial of photos about the LongFaTang, the Vetnam Brides in Taiwan, illegal immigrant in New York,...

So camera is not a good toy, photo is not a
