Shoe tree

Photos by Tim and Laurel Casper
My brother and his family spotted this tree in the high desert country of Oregon last week. No explanation. Something about altitude and art?

An arresting image. Purists, don't read on: why not tweak it just a little to bring out the colours and contrast?
Strange... I found a Shoe Tree on Highway 50 in the middle of the Nevada desert... (?)
Makes me wonder how many Shoe Trees there are around this big country of ours.

what a lovely picture
There's a similar tree on the St. Mary's college campus in Maryland. Apparently one hung their shoes on the tree after losing their virginity. Since the trradition started its been common to hang your shoes after having new and exciting experiences.
I think these college trees have a different meaning ;-)

Is that, Something about altitude and art? or Something about attitude and art?

I know this shoe tree. I've got people that live north of there, and you drive by it on the way up from Reno.
I asked my cousin if she'd ever put shoes there. She said 'Nope.' I asked why not. She said, 'Cause I've never been that drunk on my way back from Reno.' Humpf.

my husband and I drove by this SHOE TREE in Oregon in July 2006. We were wondering what the purpose of the shoes in the tree were? I have since been told it was started by bored local teens. Of course we had to stop and take pictures.
