We first discovered this work after it was submitted to the Exposure Awards 2014. Although it was not chosen as a finalist by the jury, the editors of LensCulture were impressed and decided to publish this feature article about it. Enjoy!


Perhaps most recognizable in animal form, stripes carry visual punch. Crisp, sharp, and unmissable, stripes surround us, and immediately draw the eye. This meditation on pattern casts its eye on Tokyo, Japan. Through the lens of street photographer Tadashi Onishi, we discover high contrast, black-and-white images that reveal the dialogue between quotidian life and design in its many forms.
