Flying girl
Project info

Athlete since her childhood, she photographed during two years, several trampolim competitions as well as trampolin pool contest. In the office of her husband, in over crowed São Paulo, she imagined her gymnasts friends jumping and flying above the skycrappers. In carrying out the project, seeking location and photometry camera, doing light tests, she ended up doing this serie from her friend Marina lorenzy.
Karina is one of the 50 best emerging photographers for 2015, as voted by the eight-member international jury for the LensCulture Emerging Talent Awards 2015. For this project, Karina has been Finalist in Portraits category in the 7th Julia Margaret Cameron Award for Women Photographers 2015 in the UK. Finalist in People category in the 8th Julia Margaret Cameron Award (UK). Honorable mention winner in Press Category in the annual contest PX3, Paris Photography Prize 2015. Gold medal in "Gallery Photographica" San Francisco, California, 2013. Flying girl has participated in several international shows and art festivals in Venice, Padova and San Francisco.
The poject has been feautured by the LensCulture editors. This is their opinion on my work:
"Over the roofs and the spires, far, far above the beating heart of over-crowded Sâo Paulo, we find a soaring figure, at the height of her powers."
"Karina Sechi's schedule is rarely lacking for inspiration. She is a lawyer and a photographer. She also practices surfing, rock-climbing and mountain-biking. Though she grew up in Venezuela, she has lived around the world (having stopped her journeys, most recently, in the south of France).
Her athletic upbringing makes itself felt in this buoyant series, "Flying Girl." For two years, Sechi photographed trampoline competitions of all kinds. Inspired, Sechi and a brave friend ascended to the top of a high building, towering over crowded São Paulo. In each shot, Sechi imagined her friend flying above the densely packed city below—a soaring figure, at the height of her powers.
