About ADAN MARROQUIN

I am a fine art photographer located in Guatemala City. My work as an artist is focused mainly on portraits.
This first series of photographs is intended to represent what I call "deepest fears". It is a visual representation of the different things that cause us fear throughout our lives.

The idea of the project came after I held different conversations with people of different ages. Youngsters were afraid of being framed into a stereotype, and the box in the head represents that coldness of living a life based on other people's perception. It is through these talks that I came to understand that some concepts are imposed by other people around us, but some others are simply generated by the perception that we have of ourselves. Older people agreed that after a certain age, one realizes that the problem was smaller than what we thought at a younger age.

Part of those life stories that people shared with me were totally surreal, so I decided to recreate a surrealistic image to represent what I perceived from them, and these photos are some of them.
