About Alan W Abramowitz

Seattle based Alan W. Abramowitz, is a working photographer originally from Brooklyn New York. He attended the University of Washington, but chose to focus on becoming a creative professional rather than pursue an advanced degree in anthropology. In turning his avocation into a career he began experimenting and investigating photographic traditions. He is self-taught, with formal training in documentary film from MIT. Abramowitz learned by developing an intimate understanding of his tools and materials and being a close observer of other artist’s work. Alan Abramowitz’s career has taken
him to every continent except Antarctica and every state except Hawaii. His work has been in a number of group shows including A Smith Gallery, Soho Photo Gallery, SE Center for Photography, Texas Tech University, Decode Gallery, University of Oregon, Eastern Washington University and Idaho State University. Alan’s photographs are included in several corporate collections, including Vulcan Inc., Safeco Insurance, Artist Trust, United Way and several financial institutions. He has also been the recipient of numerous awards including Communication Arts, American Photography, Spider Awards and the International Color Awards.
