Alexandra Dietz is an independent filmmaker and multimedia storyteller currently based in Austin. Texas. Her work seeks to establish points of connection while challenging viewers to look beyond stereotypical assumptions. Born in Detroit, Michigan, Dietz earned her B.F.A. from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2010. In 2011, she received the Fulbright-Nehru India Research Fellowship and exhibited her work through out Kolkata. In 2016 Dietz was the recipient of PDN's best Student photo award and the Kuala Lumpur International Portrait award. Recent projects include “All That Breaks”, a series that follows Xhosa women in Cape Town, South Africa as they leave sex work to build new lives, and “Your Way Back to Me” is Dietz’s newest and most personal work, documenting her girlfriend Hannah Sheridan's journey to reconnect with her Native American roots after the death of her father. The film is currently traveling the festival circuit.
