The art of photography feeds my soul. It brings me to the present moment, allowing me to find solitude and peace in the midst of life’s speed and noise. In the company of my camera I forget about time and reconnect with being, expressing what is hard to articulate.
Drawn to nature, attracted to people, inspired by children and fascinated by deep conversations, I am passionate about observing life. I carry my camera with curiosity, compassion and humour. Playing and composing with light, shadows, colours, textures, and patterns. Always looking for the unguarded moment. Always with respect and patience to let the story unfold in its natural way. Always with the desire to bring you with me, to connect with other souls.
My portfolio is a work in progress, as is my artistic voice. In exploring different fields of interests I am constantly reinventing and transforming myself, defining characteristics that become more clearly visible in every work. My current body of work is a mosaic of images from the past
nine years. What started with a predilection for Street Photography and Fine Art Photography kept growing in different directions.
Besides creative play and self expression, a move from Belgium to Ecudaor in 2006, offert me a different angle and teached me the power of visual storytelling. As an expat mother I wrote daily blog posts for 7 years. In an attempt to document and share our life overseas with family and friends my photography grew in seeking out images that could stand alone to tell the story. Simultaneously, I took the opportunity to build up eight years of experience in documenting two international IB schools. Besides the photographic recording of academics, sport activities and theater productions for their newsletters, website and publications, I also enjoyed designing Art Gallery Announcements and creating and composing slideshows for special events.
My journey of thousands of images turned a hobby into a determined passion where more then how, I am in need of more why. A challenging and inspiring humanitarian photoworkshop with The Giving Lens-Tanzania Team 2015 left me with the desire for more Humanitarian Photography Projects. Believing that powerful images can connect people beyond language, cultural and country borders to conserve cultural traditions, raise awareness of a situation and move people into action. Believing that the art of photography can make a difference.
I am Belgian, born in Germany and currently living in Vancouver, BC Canada. I have a bachelor degree in Public Relations & Communications. Before our move overseas I worked for a leading Belgian newspaper and a Dutch leader in recruitment and HR. Since the start of our expat life I am a self thought photographer taking on inspirational photography workshops and courses.
