About Anthony Karen

Anthony Karen, a New York-based documentary photographer, is deeply committed to shedding light on pressing social issues. His work spans the realms of white separatist communities, modern-day Ku Klux Klan, and the pervasive nature of hate in society.

Through long-term projects, Anthony intimately explores the lives and beliefs of these often misunderstood subcultures. This dedication has resulted in the publication of a book and exhibitions in Bulgaria and Italy, as well as two screenings at Visa Pour I’image in Perpignan.

Anthony's collaboration with LIFE on "Inside the Westboro Baptist Church" earned him two MIN Editorial Awards, while his humanitarian contributions were recognized with the George A. Robinson IV Foundation grant. Beyond photography, Anthony has volunteered with organizations such as NY Hospice, Smile Train, Surgical Volunteers International, and the Humane Society. His work has been featured in documentaries like "Healing from Hate: Battle for the Soul of a Nation,” the six-part docuseries "Why Do We Hate," and the feature film Imperium. Anthony's photography has become integral to studies programs on racism and white supremacy at Stockton University.
