Five years ago, I moved from Amsterdam to the small village of Noordwijk, near the beach. To my surprise, I discovered a still-authentic 1960s bungalow which was uninhabited but still furnished. My imagination was triggered. It was as if time had stood still. So I staged a story about a married couple living in the suburbs—behind the orange bricks and sheer curtains—each with their own dreams and desires.

“I don’t make it more beautiful than it is—I make it as beautiful as it can be.”

That one second
…in which the sunlight just right
…that your hair is nice
…that all the colors fit together
…that your eyes laughing
…in which all is well
