The Italian international photography festival, Cortona On The Move, always offers an abundance of photographic treats to inspire, stimulate, educate and delight visitors. This year, you can discover 22 exhibitions (4 group shows and 18 solo exhibitions) throughout this ancient walled city with a hilltop view over all of Tuscany. The theme for this edition is Body of Evidence, and we are happy to share a preview from several of the featured photographers.
Paolo Woods, Artistic Director, says this about the theme:
“From the moment photography was born, the body immediately established itself as one of the focal subjects of this new medium. The body to be discovered, laid bare, observed. A place for pleasure, but also for pain, at once vulnerable and incredibly powerful.
“Now, more than ever, the body has become the field for every battle, whether over identity, gender or politics, individual or collective. The body can be commodified or sanctified. The perfect body is a lie wrapped in an illusion. The body should be celebrated in all of its forms and in defiance of all diktats. It is a place of freedom and a space to be liberated…”
The opening week agenda includes talks, interviews, a photobook fair, nighttime projections, and portfolio reviews (LensCulture’s Laura Sackett will be there to meet with photographers to discover some new work).
