This series shows the development of a new approach to my work, forming the basis for ongoing personal projects.

"Colour from Black" draws on the essence of the traditional Victorian Auricula Theatres, which show collections of plants in their pots.

Collecting, tending and seasonal showing of plants is something intrinsic in our human connection and relationship with Nature.

The build up of anticipation before Spring and its flower shows is echoed in the "Theatre"- itself a mixture of practicality and drama: A stepped stand, (originally portable) covered in black velvet creates a setting on which to stage the show; Interwoven with this is the fragility and timing of the perfect bloom, resonating with the precision of the era through the treasured cultivars of florists and plant growers today.

In my series the images approximate a garden, inspiration from which the studies began. "Colour from Black" is an ongoing project.
