Four renowned photographers were selected to open the new space. The opening exhibitions included: Annie Leibovitz's A Photographer's LIfe 1990-2005, Vee Speers' The Birthday Party, Joel-Peter Witkin's Bodies, and Swedish photographer Lennart Nilsson's series A Child is Born from 1965.
About Fotografiska
Founded by Jan and Per Broman, with the assistance of a well-respected advisory Arts Council, the museum is dedicated exclusively to contempoary photography. Fotografiska is centrally located in a beautifully renovated building right on the Stockhom harbor. It consists of 2,500 square meters and also houses a book shop, a restaurant, and a commercial gallery. The Fotografiska Academy offers courses and workshops on site, as well, for both amateur and professional photographers.
