We first discovered this work after it was submitted to the Visual Storytelling Awards 2014. Although it was not chosen as a finalist by the jury, the editors of LensCulture were impressed and decided to publish this feature article about it. Enjoy!

“The Middle of Somewhere” is from my ongoing visual family diary, which revolves around my two daughters growing up. After leaving behind my photographic career (and life) in London in 2002, we passed several nomadic years before settling down in a remote part of Australia where this series began.

My work is a celebration of childhood, family life, love and our simplistic lifestyle which intertwines with our environment. As I witness my daughter’s transformation—in what feels like the briefest of moments—I’m compelled to preserve something of our time living together.
