John Deakin

John Deakin - Photographs (French Edition)
by Robin Muir
Publisher's Description
For a brief time in the late 1940s and early 1950s John Deakin photographed international luminaries--Picasso, John Huston, Dylan Thomas, and others--for British Vogue. His work was a departure from the magazine's style and they had trouble integrating his darkly piercing psychological portraits. The painter Francis Bacon, however, commissioned a number of portraits and produced several of his well-known images from them. This monograph, the companion to the British National Portrait Gallery's major restrospective, gathers all of this work (including the Bacon paintings) together for the first time. The time worn prints that remain--ironically reproduced so finely--are a haunting testament to this forgotten master's brilliant vision.
