Publisher's Description
This book is an episodic look at life in a Swiss mental hospital. Schneider concentrates on both the inmates and the physical details of their surroundings. In one image, and unmade bed takes on iconic weight. Another photograph, of a badly burned hand in a plastic bag, is gruesomely repulsive. Inmates slump in a bleak dayroom or bury their faces in their hands. These photographs are not pretty, but, unfortunately, they seem all too real.
