Photographer and teacher Karl Gernot Kuehn edited this impressive anthology of Soviet East German photography, threading through the well-collected images with extensive historical writing about the conditions in which they were made, censorship, and their study. The diversity and sophistication of these photographers, working in isolation for many years, is quite impressive.
