Mae Ying
by Noi Satirat Damampai
Mae Ying means a woman in Lao language. It is a handmade photo book features portraits of the ethnic ladies within their environments in Lao PDR. In Mae Ying, emotion is a mystery. This little black book is hard-covered with hemp fabric and each page is made of handmade mulberry papers representing the ethnic cultures and way of livings. The photos are glossy photo papers, though. The book is hand-written, coptic stitch binding with waxed thread. All by my two hands, and made in Thailand. Limited one-off edition of 30 copies, numbered, and signed.
