Mae Ying
by Noi Satirat Damampai
In Mae Ying, emotion is a mystery. Mae Ying means a woman in Lao language. It is a handmade photo book featuring portraits of the ethnic ladies within their cultures and environments in Laos PDR. This little black book is hard-covered with hemp fabric and each page is made of handmade mulberry papers representing the ethnic cultures and way of livings. The prints are glossy photo papers, though. The book is hand-written, coptic stitch binding with waxed thread. All by my two hands, and made in Thailand. Limited one-off edition of 30 copies, numbered, and signed.
