The writer-photographer Victor Burgin edited and contributed an essay to Thinking Photography, a fascinating book that debated the traditional notion of photographs as objects and the idea of documentary truth in photography. Burgin abandoned his early training as a painter in favor of photography and theoretical writing. His work has shifted from imagery that refers to language and advertising, to "reportage," and more recently to images focused on sexuality and desire. Between, a monograph of Burgin's photography, shows this evolution in work taken during the last 15 years.
