When she was in middle age, with three grown children, she took up painting and photography and opened a portrait studio on Fifth Avenue in New York City. She was a member of the circle of Photo-secessionists and her interactions with the various members of that group are described. This book accompanies an exhibition of Käsebier's work at the Museum of Modern Art in New York that will open in the Spring of 1992.
