Tina Modotti Photographs
by Sarah Lowe
Publisher's Description
This new book is the first comprehensive retrospective of Modotti's work, and accompanies an exhibition at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Modotti's period of activity was confined to seven years in Mexico, where she became a close friend and lover of Edward Weston. She also became involved with the political activists of the day, and associated with painters such as Diego Rivera and José Clemente Orozco. Her photographs reflect her partisan ideals and burgeoning political consciousness, as well as being some of the most beautiful photographic images ever made. Nearly half of the images in this important book have rarely or never been published before.
