by Julian Cox
Publisher's Description
Edmund Teske (1911–1996) was one of the most significant artist-photographers active in Los Angeles in recent decades. He approached photography as a highly malleable medium, open to the artist's intervention at several points in the creative process. An inventive darkroom technician, Teske created photographs that expressed his emotional and spiritual concerns. His images reveal the power of memory and dreams to transform our perception and understanding of the visual world.

This 180-page book provides an introduction to and an extensive biocritical essay on Edmund Teske. The book traces his long career from Chicago in the 1930s to Los Angeles, where the photographer took up residence in 1943. Over a 60-year period, Teske created a diverse body of work that explored the expressive and emotional potentials of the medium, liberating a younger generation of American photographers by opening up new areas of subject matter for them to explore.
