Walker Evans and Jane Ninas in New Orleans, 1935-1936 (an exhibition catalogue)

by Jeff L. Rosenheim

Publisher's Description
Walker Evans met his first wife, Jane Smith Ninas, in New Orleans in 1935. She was a promising young painter of the local scene. This catalogue accompanies an exhibit of the work both were doing at the time. It includes a number of Evans' photographs (some appear in American Photographs; others are lesser-known), as well as several reproductions of paintings by Ninas. That there are similarities in their work is apparent; as to who influenced whom, that is less obvious. Includes an essay by Jeff L. Rosenheim.
