Peter Hujar

Peter Hujar
by Stephen Koch
Publisher's Description
This handsomely designed monograph accompanies a retrospective exhibit of the work of Peter Hujar, who died of AIDS in 1987. Hujar was a successful fashion photographer and chronicler of the alternative New York art scene in the 1970s and 1980s. A wide variety of images are reproduced. They range from straight-forward, on-location photographs of farm animals to sensitive studio portraits of Hujar's friends and acquaintances and candid pictures made at parties and in clubs. Interviews with two of Hujar's closest friends and an essay by critic Stephen Koch provide a further perspective on Hujar's life and work.
