Panna Maria: An Image of Polish Texans
by Joseph Jaworski
Publisher's Description
A photographic study of Panna Maria, a tiny rural community in Texas. Most of those who live in Panna Maria today are descendants of the town's original Polish founders: many people still speak Polish in their homes, and most of the community's children attend the school run by the local Catholic church. Polish-born Jaworski began visiting Panna Maria as part of his graduate studies at the University of Texas at Austin, and this book is the culmination of his efforts. His photographs emphasize the importance of traditional values--family, church, school--to Panna Maria, especially in the midst of a larger culture that has seemingly passed it by.
