Three Gorges
by Bill Zorn
Publisher's Description
Few places in the world have the history of the Three Gorges on the Yangtze River in central China. Perhaps even fewer places exhibit the majestic beauty concentrated in this small area, reaching from Yichang in the east to Fengjie in the west, a distance of only 120 miles. But since the summer of 2003, the water has been rising due to the construction of the world’s largest hydroelectric project, the Three Gorges Dam, creating the largest reservoir in history and witnessing the forced removal of 2 million people. Bill Zorn spent months there documenting this extraordinary area, capturing in black and white photographs a piece of what was the 'Three Gorges'.

From the artist's preface: 'No one will ever know what history remains beneath the reservoir, the length of Lake Superior. Millions of lifetimes now silently observe as ships pass hundreds of feet above their graves. They are now one with the river which gave them their lives and livelihoods. Though they can no longer hear us, we can see them in the eyes of these, their descendants.'

Bruce Barnbaum: '...a truly wonderful book, filled with some really stunning photographs...' Julian Cox, Atlanta High Museum of Art:..(a) beautiful important body of work...' Brooks Jensen, Lenswork '..a fantastic body of work...a terrific looking book'
