Sao Paulo
by Boogie
Publisher's Description
Born in Belgrade Serbia, street photographer Boogie possesses a rare talent for documenting the human condition. With an eye for social realism that fluctuates between moments of quiet beauty and confrontational abrasive narratives, Boogie's work brings to mind to that of war photographer Frank Capra mixed with Diane Arbus. His black and white photographs, which he develops himself in his Brooklyn apartment bathroom, capture the character and the inhabitants of some of the most tumultuous cities in the world. Traditionally photojournalism focuses more on content- recording a moment or an event- and less upon formal concerns. However, Boogie gracefully integrates both a documentarian's eye with a finely honed artistic sensibility. Many of his images are at once deeply poignant, and totally unsettling. Boogie's work has taken him from Serbia, to Cuba and throughout South America. Sao Paolo features his remarkable impressions from one of Brazil's poorest and most troubled urban metropolises.
