Internationally known as a brilliant and sometimes controversial anthropologist, Claude Lévi-Strauss is also a skilled photographer. During the period 1935-1939, Lévi-Strauss made more than three thousand photographs of the indigenous peoples of Brazil. One hundred and eighty of the images are reproduced here, along with Lévi-Strauss' informative captions. It is an intriguing and affectionate ethnographical study.
