Broken Dream: 20 Years of War in Eastern Europe

As a native photojournalist scouring the old Eastern bloc, Antonin Kratochvil paints a bleak picture of a dark, endlessly ironic landscape and people. Though he escaped as a young man, Kratochvil has been returning for twenty years, often through bribery. These photographs, taken mostly before the demise of Communist rule, are filled with the informed distrust of an insider searching for the soul of his homeland.
