Carol Friedman is known for her ability to elegantly combine the physical allure and psychological depth of her iconic subjects—celebrated figures in the art, music and media worlds.
An avowed music lover, Friedman's classic images of jazz, soul and classical recording artists have been widely published and exhibited and may be seen on hundreds of album and CD covers. Jazz artists, "the irreplaceable ones", were her first subjects and continue to inspire her life and work. A retrospective of her jazz portraits, The Jazz Pictures, was published in 2001 by Arena Editions.
In the Entertainment industry, she held the positions of Creative Director for Elektra Entertainment, Art Director and Chief Photographer for Blue Note Records and Vice President, Creative Director for Motown.
Friedman is the producer/ director of the forthcoming film ABBEY LINCOLN: The Music Is The Magic, a 16mm feature-length documentary on the life and work of the brilliant Abbey Lincoln. The film was shot over a period of twenty years and is now being edited. You can view a preview clip
