Charles Birnbaum is a self-taught photographer with a BFA degree in ceramics from the Kansas City Art Institute. For most of his artistic career he has been creating and exhibiting award-winning sculpture, but Charles returned to photography during the pandemic as a way to express the unsettled times. Photographic success came within a few months when he was awarded 3rd prize in Still Life in a 2020 international competition. Over the past four years, his work has gained significant national and international recognition, being selected for exhibitions across renowned venues including the International Photography Hall of Fame (St. Louis), Loosen Art (Rome), Grey Cube Gallery (Helsinki), Praxis Gallery (Minneapolis), BBA Gallery (Berlin), PH21 Gallery (Budapest), Decode Gallery (Tucson), Glasgow Gallery (Scotland), and SoHo Photo Gallery (New York). The work has earned recognition through the International Photography Award, Monochrome Awards, and features in Dodho Magazine.
His sculptures are in multiple private and public collections, including those of textile designer Jack Lenor Larsen, the Kapfenberg Cultural Center in Austria, design luminary Hilda Longinotti, former Everson Museum of Arts Director Ronald Kuchta, and the MoMCA Museum in Mino, Japan.
