Charlie Davoli, pseudonym of Riccardo Schirinzi, was born in Singapore in 1976, and currently resides in Casarano, Lecce. Since 2012, he has begun exploring photography using the iPhone as his sole tool, creating paradoxical images that challenge the perception of reality. Constant experimentation and the adoption of new photographic means have led him over time to develop a unique language, with works characterized by fantastic atmospheres far removed from conventional reality.
His photography is a means of exploration and transmission of his vision of the world, playing with visual perception and overcoming the limits of traditional photography. Heavily influenced by his musical background, he conveys this passion into his artistic expression. His love for retro and sci-fi culture translates into works imbued with suggestions of past eras and futuristic visions. His inspiration also draws nourishment from the metaphysical imagination, evident in his ability to create evocative and mysterious atmospheres.
Charlie Davoli's photographic work shows affinities with the Narrative Art photographic movement of the Seventies, where visual narration is compressed into a single frame that is completed by the titles, giving the viewer the right input to suggest an infinite number of experiences. In the same way, Charlie Davoli, considering photography as a playful means to ironize reality, brings out the narrative element, leading the spectator towards new itineraries and moving them away from the trivial and obsessive repetition of the real.
He has collaborated with museum institutions such as the Mart in Rovereto and the National Museum of Capodimonte, participating in projects like the Lavazza 2021 calendar and projects for the Trentino region in 2020.
Charlie Davoli has gained recognition both nationally and internationally through various exhibitions. Among his most recent solo exhibitions, “Life Is But a Day” (2025) was presented at the Mucciaccia Gallery Project in Rome, “UTOPIA DIAGRAMS” (2022) was featured at Arles during the Exposition OFF, while “Retrospettive del Domani” (2018) garnered interest in the OFF circuit of the Festival di Fotografia Europea in Reggio Emilia.
Internationally, he participated in IMAGENATION PARIS (2018) and IMAGENATION Venice (2018).
Nationally, his presence has been significant in events such as Paratissima (2018) in Turin, Roma Arte in Nuvola (2022 e 2024), Artworks#3 Errare (2019) in Rome, REWIND FORWARD (2020), and Sum Art (2020) at the renowned Mucciaccia Contemporary gallery in Rome, in addition to Ph.ocus - About photography in Turin (2021).
