Claire Garoutte’s photography has appeared in numerous anthologies including publications by Cassel Press and Midmarch Press. Konkursbuck Verlag published her first book, Matter of Trust, in 1996 in Germany. In 2007, Duke University Press published Crossing the Water: A Path to the Afro-Cuban Spirit World, coauthored with Anneke Wambaugh. Recently, Garoutte and Wambaugh published a new essay, Lumbamba, Lord of Justice, also about Afro-Cuban religious practices, in the anthology Beyond Tradition, (Sean Kingston Publishing, London). Garoutte’s photographs have been exhibited internationally. She is an Associate Professor in the Art and Art History department at Seattle University.
