About Dmitry Vyshemirsky

Dmitry Vyshemirsky (b.1958, Zhitomir, Ukraine).
Before the 1990s Vyshemirsky was a press photographer for periodicals in the Soviet Union; and since 1989 has been a freelance photographer. As of 2015 he lives and works in Berlin.
In 1989 and 1990, the last years of the Soviet regime Vyshemirsky photographed remains of the Gulag concentration camps in the north of Russia in Arkhangelsk, Magadan, and Murmansk Region. A book “Waiting for Mercy ” was released in 2021.
In 2004, Vyshemirsky completed the series of photographs “Atonement for Königsberg” – an artistic reflection on the Kaliningrad region as a cultural crossroad where the mosaic of Russian reality meets the cultural heritage of East Prussia. A book “Atonement for Königsberg” (Königsberg, verzeih) was released in 2008.
In 2007, Vyshemirsky completed the series of photographs “post-” – a reflexive view of the post-German and post-Soviet cultural space of the Kaliningrad region, a Russian exclave on the Baltic Sea. Prior to 1945 it was a part of Eastern Prussia. A book “post-” was released in 2014.
Participated in many solo and group exhibitions in Russia and abroad. Author of several publications in Russian and foreign editions. The works of Vyshemirsky are kept in museums and private collections in Russia, Germany, Denmark, Lithuania, Poland, the U.S., France and other countries.
