About Elias Yannas Tsigounis

Elias Yannas Tsigounis is a Greek photographer based in London, where he has lived for over a decade, working in healthcare alongside the development of his artistic practice. His work is informed by this dual position, engaging themes of care, vulnerability, loss, and resilience through both documentary and experimental approaches.
His project King’s Portraits (2020) forms a historical archive of 800 nurses, midwives, and healthcare assistants working at King’s College Hospital during the Covid-19 pandemic, recording the diversity and collective endurance of frontline workers.
Elegos (2022–2023) adopts a materially driven methodology: working with 6×9 medium-format negatives, Tsigounis deconstructs, manipulates, and chemically alters film to construct layered photomontages exploring loss, transformation, and perception. The project originated from the death of his father, positioning loss as a condition that reshapes memory and photographic form.
He has exhibited internationally in London and Athens, including Unlocked Shoreditch, Ambika P3, After Nyne Gallery, the Athens War Museum, and the Athens Fringe Festival. He has contributed interviews and editorial content to Photonet Magazine. He holds an MA (Distinction) in Photographic Arts from the University of Westminster and a BA (Hons) in Photography from Falmouth University.
